How to Replace Front Hub Bearing 2007-12 Nissan Altima

Install Instructions

1. Introduction and Preparation
  • Introduce TRQ wheel hub; begin by loosening lug nuts while the car is on the ground using a 21mm socket
2. Lift Vehicle and Remove Wheel
  • Raise the car, remove all lug nuts and hub cap, then take off the wheel
3. Remove Caliper
  • Remove two 14mm bolts to detach the caliper
  • Compress the piston by pulling it toward you, then hang the caliper to prevent brake hose damage
4. Remove Caliper Bracket
  • Remove two 22mm bolts securing the caliper bracket to the knuckle using a breaker bar
5. Remove Rotor
  • Pull rotor off
  • If stuck, use a ball-peen hammer to tap around the rotor to free it
6. Remove Hub Bolts
  • Remove four 17mm bolts (two top, two bottom) from behind the knuckle using a swivel socket
7. Remove Cotter Pin
  • Straighten and remove cotter pin
  • If rusted, drill out or punch it
  • Replace with a new one later
8. Remove Axle Nut
  • Use 1 1/4 inch socket and breaker bar or air tools to remove axle nut
  • Use a wrench and lug nut trick to hold hub in place
9. Free the Axle
  • Ensure axle is loose
  • If stuck, tap end gently or thread nut on and tap it to avoid damaging threads
10. Remove Hub Assembly
  • Use a hammer to tap hub off the knuckle
  • Push axle through to fully remove it
11. Install New Hub
  • Align and insert new TRQ hub assembly into place
  • Start all four bolts before tightening
12. Torque Hub Bolts and Axle Nut
  • Torque hub bolts to 65 ft-lbs
  • Install and torque axle nut to 129 ft-lbs using the wrench/lug nut trick again
13. Install New Cotter Pin
  • Insert a new cotter pin and bend it to secure the axle nut
14. Clean and Prep Caliper Bracket
  • Remove brake pad brackets, clean surfaces with brake cleaner and wire brush, reinstall brackets
15. Clean and Lubricate Slider Pins
  • Ensure caliper slider pins move freely
  • Clean and apply thin grease layer if needed
16. Reinstall Caliper Bracket
  • Bolt caliper bracket back on using anti-seize
  • Torque bolts to 98 ft-lbs
17. Reinstall Brake Pads
  • Apply thin brake grease on caliper bracket contact points
  • Reinsert pads, avoid contaminating pad or rotor surfaces
18. Compress Caliper Piston and Install Caliper
  • Compress caliper piston using a tool or large pliers
  • Reinstall caliper and torque bolts to 20 ft-lbs
19. Reinstall Wheel and Hubcap
  • Mount wheel, align hubcap with valve stem, and hand-tighten lug nuts to avoid cross-threading
20. Final Torque on Lug Nuts
  • Lower the car and torque lug nuts to 83 ft-lbs in a star pattern
